Amel MAKHLOUF
Dr Amel Makhlouf is an attorney-at-law, qualified to practice in Paris, specialised in international arbitration, banking and finance, FinTech and Islamic finance. She has gained extensive experience in cross-border disputes and arbitral proceedings based in various jurisdictions including the Arab Middle East.
Over the years, she has acted in arbitral proceedings conducted under the auspices of the ICC, HKIAC, DIAC, BCDR-AAA, as well as ad-hoc proceedings under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules across a wide range of sectors, including large-scale construction projects, real estate, banking and finance, and Islamic finance.
She is a Lecturer at the Sorbonne Law School (France) and a Research Associate at the Centre of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law (CIMEL) at SOAS, University of London.
In June 2022, she has successfully held with Dr Jonathan Ercanbrack (Chair of the CIMEL) at SOAS, University of London, in collaboration with the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), the SOAS-QFC Workshop addressing the topic of cryptocurrencies within the realm of Islamic finance and its latest developments in the United Kingdom, MENA and MESEA regions.
Dr Amel Makhlouf is also the Managing Editor for the Country Surveys of the Yearbook of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law (YIMEL), the leading English language journal covering contemporary Islamic laws and laws of the Middle East.
