Arbitration in Morocco: issues, challenges and opportunities
Presentation
Morocco, and in particular its economic capital Casablanca, has everything it takes to become a renowned arbitration centre within the EMEA zone in the coming years if the resources at all levels are provided, be they public and institutional, academic, legislative or private.
Review of the issues, challenges and opportunities of Arbitration in Morocco.
We will begin with a critical examination of Morocco’s arbitration framework, offering perspectives from both inside and outside the country. This review will assess the legal framework, identify areas for improvement in practice, and analyze key arbitration institutions, case statistics, and enforcement challenges.
The panel will consider Casablanca's role in the broader regional arbitration ecosystem. With its significant investments in French-speaking Africa, Morocco is well-positioned to develop as a regional hub. How does it compare to existing arbitration hubs, and what opportunities remain for growth?
Finally, the session will draw lessons from successful arbitration hubs in key jurisdictions in the Middle East, Africa and Europe to identify strategies for strengthening Morocco’s arbitration landscape.
