Enforcement of arbitral awards against sovereigns: isn’t there room for more cooperation and coordination among creditors?

This year’s event will focus on cooperation and coordination (or lack thereof) among award/judgment creditors.

In some cases (e.g. Spain, Venezuela, Argentina) creditors are simply too numerous and debts too onerous for every claimant to be ultimately satisfied. By and large, creditors are then left fighting each other for crumbs, in what is objectively an immense waste of energy and resources. This conference will explore the benefits that creditor coordination could bring and the mechanisms through which it could be fostered. It will draw on the extensive experience of this year’s panellists, all of whom are seasoned private and public sovereign debt practitioners.
