Presentation

The process of selecting arbitrators, experts, and even lawyers is a critical yet often opaque aspect of international arbitration. Who makes these decisions, what factors influence and drive them, and how diversity considerations come into play? Despite growing awareness of diversity issues, gender balance in arbitration appointments remains a challenge. Cracking the code of appointments in arbitration and the diversity challenge requires a closer look at the decision-making dynamics, the role of arbitral institutions, law firms, and clients, and the barriers that persist.

This roundtable brings together top panelists—both men and women—who have taken on diverse roles as representatives of arbitral institutions, arbitrators, lawyers, experts, and general counsel. They will share their insights on the appointment process, the obstacles to achieving greater gender diversity, and practical solutions to foster meaningful change.

Our event is designed for arbitration professionals looking for actionable insights into how appointments are made, who holds the decision-making power, and what can be done to ensure more inclusive and merit-based selections.
