Sign inBuilding Resilience in Times of Uncertainty: Risk Allocation, Anticipation and Dispute Resolution – A Focus on Francophone Africa
Presentation
African Construction Law (ACL) and the Society of Construction Law France (SCL France) are proud to present our annual PAW event.
As we mark the five-year anniversary of COVID-19, the global construction industry continues to navigate economic uncertainty, supply chain disruptions, and evolving market dynamics. In Francophone Africa, these challenges coexist with significant opportunities, as evidenced by the wave of new projects launched in 2024 with a strong emphasis on sustainability. From Morocco’s €17 billion investment in desalination, renewable energy, and green hydrogen by OCP and Engie, to Cameroon’s 500 MW Kikot Hydroelectric Power Station and the Green Giant Solar Power Station in the DRC, recent developments signal a shift toward long-term resilience and sustainable growth.
Against this backdrop, this event will explore key questions for the construction sector: How can we effectively allocate risk in uncertain economic conditions? What clauses should be inserted to best anticipate unforeseen events (such as fluctuations in the cost of raw materials, supply chain disruptions, changes in shipping routes…) and limit the risk of disputes? Which dispute resolution mechanisms works best for mega projects? And looking ahead, what challenges and opportunities can we expect to shape the future of construction in Francophone Africa?
