Cherine Foty is a dually qualified common law and civil law lawyer specialized in complex international disputes. A member of Covington & Burling’s International Arbitration, Commercial Litigation, and ESG/Business & Human Rights practices in Washington, D.C., Cherine has deep experience handling high-stakes disputes across U.S. and global jurisdictions, including in Europe where she worked for over 10 years. Cherine is currently spending a year in-house on the North America litigation legal team of a major tech company. Cherine has particular experience in commercial and investment arbitrations under various arbitral rules, energy and tech disputes, multi-jurisdictional and parallel proceedings, mass arbitrations brought before U.S. arbitral institutions, class actions and personal injury cases, and a diverse range of cases involving human rights and environmental due diligence, global supply chains, and sustainability. She is an Adjunct Professor of International Arbitration at the George Washington University Law School and previously taught at the Sorbonne and Assas Law Schools in Paris. She is a Delegate to the ICC Commission for Arbitration and ADR and on the boards of several international arbitration organizations. Cherine has been recognized as a Future Leader in International Arbitration by Lexology (formerly Who’s Who Legal) and as a Best Lawyers “One to Watch” in Alternative Dispute Resolution for Washington, DC and France.
