Francisco Pineda is a Guatemalan attorney specializing in international investment arbitration. He currently serves as legal counsel to the Republic of Guatemala in investor–State arbitrations conducted under the ICSID and UNCITRAL Rules, as well as in recognition and enforcement proceedings before United States courts.

His practice focuses on disputes arising in the energy and mining sectors, as well as infrastructure and economic development projects. He works closely with international counsel and government institutions in the strategic coordination of complex treaty-based proceedings.

Francisco holds an LL.M. in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University of London. He is admitted as Attorney and Notary Public in Guatemala and has prior academic experience as a university lecturer in Introduction to Law and Commercial Law.

He actively participates in UNCITRAL Working Group III and contributes to discussions on the reform of the investor–State dispute settlement system, with particular interest in appellate mechanisms and consistency in arbitral decision-making.
