Meg Kinnear is a co-founding member of LKDR LLC (Low & Kinnear Dispute Resolution). She acts as a dispute neutral in international disputes, including investor-State, commercial, trade and State-State cases.

A towering figure in contemporary international arbitration, Meg Kinnear embodies authority forged at the highest levels of global dispute resolution.

As Secretary-General of the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) from 2009 to 2024, she steered the world’s leading investor-State arbitration institution through landmark procedural reforms, strengthening its legitimacy amid rising geopolitical and regulatory tensions.

Previously, as head of the Trade Law Bureau of Canada, she directed complex, high-stakes trade and investment disputes on behalf of Canada.

With more than four decades at the forefront of investor-State, trade, and commercial arbitration—spanning sectors from natural resources and energy to aviation, infrastructure, and manufacturing—Meg Kinnear has not merely witnessed the evolution of international economic law; she has decisively shaped its architecture.

Meg Kinnear has published numerous articles on international investment law and procedure and is a frequent speaker on these topics. She is a co-author of Investment Disputes under NAFTA (published in 2006 and updated in 2008 & 2009). She also co-authored texts on Canadian legal procedure including Federal Court Practice (1988-1990, 1991-1992, and 1993-2009 annually) and 1995 Crown Liability and Proceedings Act Annotated (1994).
