Ricardo SARAIVA

Ricardo is a managing associate with Miranda’s Lisbon office which he joined in 2015, where he has been developing his practice as a dispute resolution lawyer, notably advising and representing clients in cross-border disputes connected to Portugal, Brazil and to several African jurisdictions. He is a Member of the Board for the Future of the Arbitration Centre of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (since 2022) and a Member of the Ethics Council of the APA - Portuguese Arbitration Association (since 2023).
Ricardo has been actively involved in complex cases related to a wide array of subjects (such as construction, energy, engineering, distribution, banking and finance and others) both in Portugal and abroad, notably acting as counsel. Having practiced as in-house counsel in a multinational construction company he has very good knowledge of construction related matters, including FIDIC and other forms of contract. Prior to that he worked at VdA Vieira de Almeida.
Ricardo has attended the Arbitration Academy in Paris and has further attended specialized courses on commercial and investment arbitration and FIDIC. He has written for national and international publications notably on arbitration and construction related matters and has attended seminars and workshops also on arbitration related matters, as a speaker. He has been acting as secretary and assistant in several commercial (ICC, CAM-CCBC, CAC, ad hoc) and investment arbitrations (PCA, ICSID, UNCITRAL) with a variety of applicable laws (such as Portuguese, Brazilian, Spanish, French, Egyptian, Mozambican, Angolan, Ecuadorian) and has more recently received appointments as Sole Arbitrator and co-arbitrator respectively in an international and in a domestic arbitration.

Ricardo has been ranked since 2022 as an Associate to Watch by Chambers Global and Chambers Europe and is also consistently recognized in other directories such as Legal 500. In 2025, Ricardo was awarded the Four under Forty Future Leaders Award in Portugal by Leader’s League.

Besides Portuguese, Ricardo speaks English, French and Spanish and has been advising clients in these languages.
