Sign inAI, Trade & Arbitration: The EU-Mercosur Agreement, What’s Next?
Presentation
Organized by the Arbitration Channel, Jus Mundi, the Mediation and Arbitration Center of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in Brazil and The Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CAM-CCBC), this event aims to address the ongoing discussions around a potential EU–Mercosur agreement, which could mark a new phase in trade relations between Europe and South America, reshaping how businesses structure cross-border contracts, manage regulatory risk, and resolve disputes. The event brings together perspectives from both sides of the Atlantic to explore, in practical terms, what may change for international dispute resolution if the agreement moves forward.
A particularly timely — and still under explored — angle is artificial intelligence. If AI products and services from Mercosur are required to meet European regulatory standards to access the EU market (and vice versa), new disputes may emerge around compliance, change in law, liability allocation, data governance, and intellectual property.
Bridging the Brazil-Europe corridor, the session offers a focused conversation on emerging risk scenarios and practical tools, contractual and procedural, to anticipate what’s next.
