Inaugurated in April 2010, the Mediation and Arbitration Center at the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in Brazil has rapidly gown traction among arbitration users in Brazil. Currently, the Center admnisters around R$ 500 million in disputes, some of which involve state entities.
The Mediation and Arbitration Rules were updated in 2019, when new rules on expedited proceedings and emergency arbitrators were enacted.
In 2021, the Center approved the Supplementary Rules on Class Arbitration, keeping up with its inovative and pioneering characteristics, as these are the first rules, among all Brazilian institutions, to rule on this kind of arbitration.
