Jingzhou Tao is an independent arbitrator. He has more than 40 years of experience advising Fortune 500 companies on China-related matters. His areas of practice include cross-border mergers and acquisitions and international arbitration.
Mr. Tao graduated from Peking University Law School in 1982 and University of Paris I (Panthéon Sorbonne) (D.E.A.) in 1984. He is an Avocat à la Cour d’Appel de Paris. He is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, Tsinghua University School of Law and China University of Political Science and Law MBA Program.
He is a Member of the Expert Committee of China International Commercial Court(CICC), a Member of the Board of Global Arbitration Review(GAR), a Member of Board of Trustees of Foundation International for Arbitration Advocacy (FIAA), a Member of the Advisory Committee of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission(CIETAC), a Member of the International Advisory Board of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre(HKIAC), the Board of Directors of the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA), etc. Over the past decade, Mr. Tao has been consistently ranked by Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific as a highly recommended lawyer in the field of dispute resolution in China and has been nominated as one of the most sought-after arbitrators in the Asia-Pacific region. Chambers has praised Mr. Tao as "one of the top ten go-to lawyers for clients in the Chinese market" and noted that he "bridges the gap between East and West." He also served as Vice Chairman of the Arbitration Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) and Co-Chair of the Asia Pacific Forum of IBA, Court member of ICC International Court of Arbitration and a member of the Board of Directors of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). He has acted as arbitrator or presiding arbitrator in over 200 cases administered by more than ten arbitral institutions, including ICC, LCIA, SIAC and HKIAC, etc. He also served as one of 12 arbitrators for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Ad Hoc Division as well as for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games Ad Hoc Division.
Mr. Tao has published several books in English, French and Chinese including Mergers and Acquisitions in China, Arbitration Law and Practice in China, Resolving Business Disputes in China, Non-Tariff Trade Barriers in China, Droit Chinois des Affaires ( Econamica), Le Droit Chinois Contemporain, etc. He has also written numerous articles on Chinese arbitration, foreign investment, and international trade.
