Maria Chedid is Global Chair of the International Arbitration Practice at Arnold & Porter, and President of the Court of Arbitration of the Abu Dhabi International Arbitration Centre. She regularly serves as lead counsel in high stakes commercial and investment arbitrations and is often called upon to serve as an arbitrator. Ms. Chedid has over three decades of experience with arbitrations administered by all major arbitral institutions, including the ICC, ICDR, LCIA, SIAC, ICSID, arbitrateAD, DIAC, CPR, JAMS, PCA, and the AAA, as well as proceedings under the UNCITRAL Rules, in the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, and in the UNCC. Her arbitration practice spans a wide range of industries and subject matter, with particular depth in technology, energy, and life sciences disputes. Ms. Chedid has served two terms as one of the U.S. members of the ICC Court of Arbitration, and is currently a Co-Chair of the ICDR’s Technology and Life Sciences Working Group. Ms. Chedid has been consistently recognized for her arbitration expertise by Chambers Global, Chambers USA, The Legal 500 US, Who’s Who Legal, Lexology, Law360, Super Lawyers, Lawdragon 500 Global, and Euromoney's Guide to the World's Leading Experts. In Chambers Global, she has been described as having “an unparalleled mastery of international arbitration; she is incisive, a superb strategist and is unrelenting in achieving the targeted objectives.” In 2022, she was named by Law360 as an “International Arbitration MVP” based on her success representing clients in arbitration. She has twice been a recipient of California's Top Women Lawyers of the Year award in recognition of her exemplary client advocacy as well as her trailblazing work in international arbitration in the U.S. For nearly a decade, she has been named to the Silicon Valley Arbitration & Mediation Center’s “Tech List” of the World’s Leading Technology Arbitrators. Ms. Chedid has written extensively on international arbitration and is a regular speaker and lecturer on international dispute resolution and advocacy at conferences and law schools worldwide. She is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Lebanon.
