Bernhard MAIER
Bernhard has over 15 years of international arbitration experience. He specialises in commercial and investment treaty arbitration, with a particular focus on the energy and mining industries. He also represents clients in contentious and non-contentious public international law matters and sits as an arbitrator.
Over the past few years Bernhard has become a recognised expert in AI in arbitration. Bernhard is an adjunct Professor at King’s College London where he teaches an LLM course “Cyberlaw: Big Data, Algorithmic Governance and Democracy” which includes a significant syllabus on AI.
He is also regularly invited to speak on AI issues at leading events. His latest appearances include:

2. May 2024 - Kuwait International Law School 10th Anniversary Annual Conference "Artificial Intelligence in the 21st Century" in Kuwait; Panel on "Artificial intelligence and legal practice"
3. September 2023 - FT Live Cyber Resilience Summit in Lausanne, Switzerland; Panel on "Fostering International Collaboration on Cyber Governance"
4. July 2023 - In collaboration with 39 Essex Chambers Bernhard recorded a podcast "Episode 6 - AI and Legal Education" which is available on Spotify.
5. September 2022 - FT Live Cyber Resilience Summit in Lausanne, Switzerland, Panel on “Risk in a Digitally Connected World”.
Bernhard is ranked in The Legal 500 UK 2025 Guide for his international arbitration expertise and as a ‘Future Leader’ for arbitration in the Lexology Index (formerly Who’s Who Legal).
