Camilla PERERA - DE WIT
Camilla is an independent arbitrator and mediator. Up until the summer of 2024, she was the Secretary General and Director General of the Netherlands Arbitration Institute (NAI). In that capacity she headed the staff and lead the direction for the institute. The aggregate financial amount in dispute at the NAI year-end 2023 amounted to a record EUR 4 billion. In 2023 the caseload comprised 62% English language cases, which showcased her drive for further internationalisation of the institute. Under her tenure, the NAI was nominated twice during the Global Arbitration Review Awards ceremony in Paris and she speerheaded the development of the most recent 2024 NAI Arbitration Rules (effective 1 March 2024).
Prior to becoming Secretary General - Director General at the NAI, Camilla was working as Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in the Peace Palace in the Hague. She was also involved in setting up specialist arbitration rules and institutes, including the Hague Court of Arbitration for Aviation which was founded in collaboration with the NAI during her tenure. Prior to going institutional, Camilla worked as an attorney-in-law in private practice, both in the Netherlands as well as in New York. Camilla frequently lectures, presents and publishes on topics of ADR and international arbitration and commercial mediation in particular. She sat as Vice President at the International Federation for Commercial Arbitration Institutes (IFCAI), a Board Member at the Court of Arbitration for Art (CAfA) and a Board Member at the Hague Court of Arbitration for Aviation (HagueCAA). Camilla is a CEDR-accredited mediator.
