Carlos Elias is a professor, lawyer, and arbitrator who has dedicated over 20 years to pre-litigation and litigation practice in complex disputes.

He is a highly regarded arbitrator who features on the rosters of leading Brazilian arbitral institutions. He currently serves as either sole, chair, or co-arbitrator in a range of high-profile disputes, covering contractual law, construction, franchising, mergers and acquisitions, administrative contracts, real estate sales, energy contracts, and corporate dissolution or liquidation. He is also frequently called upon to take part in multiple ad hoc committees to decide on challenges against arbitrators.

He is a member of several prestigious legal institutes and commissions, including the Brazilian Institute of Construction Law (IBDiC), the Private Law Institute (IDP), the Arbitration and ADR Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Brazilian Institute of Civil Procedure Law (IBDP), the Center for Advanced Civil Procedure Studies (CEAPRO), and the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr) and its Legislative Matters Commission.

With a Doctor and a Master of Law degree from the University of São Paulo, Carlos is a highly respected scholar who regularly lectures on procedural law, with a particular focus on arbitration. He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses and is a sought-after instructor on practical courses for students and legal professionals.
