Caroline Swartz-Zern is Senior Manager (Disputes & Investigations) - Legal at SMEC (Snowy Mountain Engineering Corporation) based in Melbourne, Australia. At SMEC, she manages external investigations and disputes.

Prior to joining SMEC, Caroline gained experience working in private practice for over a decade in Paris, Hong Kong, Perth and Melbourne, and in public international law in Washington DC and Cameroon. Her dual practice of international arbitration (commercial, investment and construction) and investigations & risk advisory, with substantial experience in the mining, oil & gas, infrastructure and renewable sectors, reflects her global focus. She is passionate about effective dispute resolution, which has driven her significant contributions to the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA), where she has consulted since 2020. She is on ACICA’s Sustainability Task Force, ACICA’s South Pacific Task Force, and ACICA’s Practice & Procedures Board. She is also a member of the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations APAC Committee and ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR.

Caroline is qualified in Victoria, Australia and New York and studied in the US and France.
