Hélène RUIZ FABRI

Hélène Ruiz Fabri is Professor at the Sorbonne Law School (University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne), having returned from a nine-year secondment as Director of the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law, where she headed the Department of International Law and Dispute Resolution. She is an associate member of the Institute of International Law, a former president of the European Society of International Law, a former dean of the Sorbonne Law School, and director of a research center for comparative studies.

She has published extensively, particularly on general international law, international dispute settlement and procedural law, and international economic law. She was editor-in-chief of the Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Procedural Law (OUP) and the Journal of World Investment and Trade (Brill). In 2015, she was awarded the Silver Medal of the CNRS for her research achievements. She also has experience in legal practice. She has worked as an expert for the Council of Europe (as a legal consultant on the ratification and implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights in Eastern European countries) and for the French administration and the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (as a legal consultant on cultural diversity). She is a judge at the Tribunal of the Bank for International Settlements and a member of the Appeals Board of the ECMWF. She has acted or is acting as arbitrator in several ICSID tribunals, in UNCITRAL tribunals at the Permanent Court of Arbitration, and in arbitrations under the external agreements of the European Union.

Hélène Ruiz Fabri est professeure à l’École de droit de la Sorbonne (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne), après un détachement de neuf ans en tant que directrice de l’Institut Max Planck Luxembourg pour le droit procédural, où elle a dirigé le département de droit international et de résolution des conflits. Elle est membre associée de l’Institut de droit international, ancienne présidente de la Société européenne de droit international, ancienne directrice de l’Ecole de droit de la Sorbonne et d’un centre de recherche en droit comparé.

Elle a publié de nombreux ouvrages, notamment sur le droit international général, le règlement des différends internationaux et le droit procédural, ainsi que sur le droit international économique. Elle a dirigé l’édition de la Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Procedural Law (OUP) et du Journal of World Investment and Trade (Brill). En 2015, elle a reçu la médaille d’argent du CNRS pour ses travaux de recherche. Elle a également une expérience de praticienne. Elle a travaillé comme experte pour le Conseil de l’Europe (en tant que consultante juridique sur la ratification et la mise en œuvre de la Convention européenne des droits de l’homme dans les pays d’Europe de l’Est) et pour l’administration française et l’Organisation internationale de la francophonie (en tant que consultante juridique sur la diversité culturelle et le droit international du commerce). Elle est juge au Tribunal de la Banque des règlements internationaux et membre de l’Appeals Board de l’EMCWF. Elle a siégé ou siège comme arbitre dans plusieurs tribunaux CIRDI, dans des tribunaux CNUDCI à la Cour permanente d’arbitrage, et dans des arbitrages dans le cadre d’accords extérieurs de l’Union européenne.
