Humberto SAENZ

He has served as counsel in over 60 national and international arbitration proceedings, both institutional and ad hoc, representing construction and industrial companies, financial institutions, government entities, and private individuals. His experience spans a wide range of sectors, including telecommunications, construction, banking, mining, energy, banking, insurance, and corporate disputes. His arbitration practice extends across El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico, Perú and the United States, where he has successfully represented investors, private parties, and public institutions.
He has been appointed as an arbitrator in more than 50 local and international arbitration cases in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Mexico, and Lima. He has served as an arbitrator for leading institutions such as the ICC, AAA, ICSID, LCIA, CENAC, CRECIG, CCIT, CCL, CeCAP, and CCEIES, as well as in UNCITRAL proceedings.
In 2022, he was added to the list of investment arbitrators of the Beijing Arbitration Commission. That same year, the European Commission included him among the professionals eligible for appointment as presiding arbitrator in commercial disputes under trade agreements with third countries.
He is accredited to participate in investment arbitration before the Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX) of Costa Rica. Additionally, he served as an arbitrator appointed by the State of El Salvador (2014–2020) before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and has been appointed both as a member of ad hoc committees and as an arbitrator in ICSID proceedings.
He is a member of the ICC Court of Arbitration, the ICC Latin American Group, and the Latin American Arbitration Association (ALARB). His expertise has been recognized by Who’s Who Legal (2016–2025) in the areas of "Litigation" and "Arbitration," as well as by Chambers Global and Chambers Latin America (2010–2025) in the field of "Dispute Resolution."
