Professor of Law Independent Arbitrator and Counsel

Kamalia Mehtiyeva is a Professor of Law at the University of Paris-Est Créteil (France). Her teaching and research fields focus on international arbitration law, civil procedure, mutual legal assistance in both civil and criminal matters as well as international enforcement and international sanctions.

Kamalia Mehtiyeva’s doctoral dissertation focused on “The Notion of Judicial Cooperation” (La notion de coopération judiciaire, LGDJ, t. 597, 2020). Her dissertation was awarded the Prize of the French Branch of the International Law Association. She is also author of the annual digest on international mutual legal assistance (“La chronique de cooperation judiciaire internationale”) for the Journal du Droit international (Clunet). She publishes regularly in French, English and Russian on various issues of international arbitration and procedural law.

She is admitted to the Paris bar. Prior to becoming a Professor of law, she practiced in the Public International Law and Arbitration Group of Shearman & Sterling in Paris (2007-2014). She is the co-founder of the law firm Barbier Mehtiyeva Law, which focuses on international arbitration and international litigation.

She acts as arbitrator and can conduct proceedings in French, English, Russian and Turkish.
