Mahmoud Hussein Ali AHMAD
I am the founding partner of M&CO Legal (Mahmood Hussain Law firm) and have over 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors. During my role as a litigator at Dubai Courts, I have achieved many favorable judgments in several high-profile cases. Through my niche practice of being an arguing counsel before the Honorable Judges at Dubai Courts, I have set a benchmark for effective representation involving complex legal issues. My areas of specialization involve dispute resolution and international commercial arbitrations, civil and commercial litigation, as well as corporate governance.
Further, I have been accredited as an arbitrator at DIAC (Dubai International Arbitration Centre) and the Abu Dhabi Commercial Conciliation and Arbitration Center, and I am internationally accredited as a qualified mediator. I have acted in more than 50 arbitration proceedings under the ICC, LCIA, ADCCAC, and DIAC rules. I have often been appointed as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator, or chairman of arbitral tribunals in international arbitration proceedings.
I am a Board Member of the ICC-UAE and Chairman of the ICC-UAE Commission in Arbitration and ADR, and I was recently appointed to the prestigious and renowned ICC Commission in Paris on Arbitration and ADR, which is a body of the ICC responsible for rule-making and research in the field of international dispute resolution. Additionally, I also played a key role in establishing the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts in my capacity as a member of the Committee that established the DIFC Courts and later as its first Deputy Registrar, and I participated in the development of various DIFC legislations for DIFC courts. I also have the right of audience before the DIFC courts.
Previously, in my capacity as Vice President for Board Relations and Corporate Governance and Compliance at du Telecom, I contributed to the UAE's second telecom operator's fast-growing development by establishing a world-class corporate governance and compliance framework, policies, and procedures.
In addition, I am also an adjunct professor at the University of East Anglia, UK, and at Dubai Campus Advisory at Pantheon-Assas University Paris II, as well as a council member. Including members of the Advisory Board of the British University in Dubai.
I am part of the organizing committee for Dubai Arbitration Week and Cyprus Arbitration Day.
