Mairée URAN
Mairée Uran Bidegain is an expert in public international law and dispute resolution. A Colombian, Uruguayan, and French national, throughout her career, Mairée has served in various roles in the field of investment arbitration. From 2018 to 2023, she worked for the Office of the Vice-Minister of Trade of the Republic of Chile providing policy and legal advice in connection with foreign investment matters. From
2018 to 2022, she was also the Head of the Program for the Defense of the State in International Investment Arbitration where she led the team in charge of Chile´s defense in investor-State disputes, coordinated the State´s position on international investment policy reform before the
United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and the reform of the ICSID rules and regulations, and participated in the negotiation of trade agreements. Subsequently, she was in charge of designing a policy plan for the prevention of investment disputes. During her tenure at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) between 2011 and 2018, she oversaw the administration of more than 60 cases in her capacity as Team Leader and Senior Legal Counsel and served as secretary of tribunals, ad hoc committees, and conciliations commission in dozens of proceedings. Between 2006 and 2011, Mairée was an associate at the international arbitration practice of White&Case LLP, in Washington D.C.
She has been an adjunct professor at American University, Washington College of Law, and Georgetown University Law Center. She is co-editor of the book, Building International Investment Law: The First 50 Years of ICSID and is a regular speaker at specialized seminars and conferences. She is a graduate of the Université Panthéon-Assas, Paris II, and holds a master’s degree in International Economic Law from the Université Panthéon-Sorbonne, Paris I, and an LL.M from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She is admitted to practice in New York.
