Nakasamba BANDA
Nakasamba is a legal practitioner, partner and head of the Commercial Transactions division at AMW & Co Legal Practitioners, one of Zambia’s leading law firms. She sits as arbitrator, mediator and adjudicator and as party representative of local and international clients under various Rules including UNCITRAL, CIARB, ICC, AFSA, LCIA and MARC Arbitration Rules.
She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), current Chairperson of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Zambian Branch and inaugural Secretary General of the Lusaka International Arbitration Centre. She has been an active and instrumental advocate of ADR in Zambia, and the current conversation around African countries as safe seats for arbitration. She has spearheaded various ongoing reforms including the review of Zambia’s ADR Laws, setting up of the Lusaka International Arbitration Centre and drafting of its Rules, and the formulation of the National ADR Policy. She is a guest lecturer at the University of Lusaka teaching Investment Law and Settlement of Investor-State Disputes.
Nakasamba sits on the Board of the Kigali International Arbitration Centre, an organization established by the Government of the Republic of Rwanda in collaboration with the Private Sector Federation to support economic operators resolve commercial disputes; is one of the inaugural steering committee members of the Young- AFSA (Arbitration Foundation for Southern Africa) ; is a member of the SADC-LA division of AFSA working towards the standardization of arbitration practice in Southern Africa; Young ICCA and the IBA’s Arbitration Committee and Arb-40.
