Nurlan MUSTAFAYEV
Nurlan Mustafayev is the Head of the Corporate Law Department at the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). With over 15 years of legal experience in the natural resources industry, he practices energy law, oil & gas contracts, corporate law with a special focus on M&A, cross-border business transactions, and international investment and commercial arbitration in the energy sector, including cases before ICSID, PCA, ICC, SCC, and LCIA.
In addition to his legal practice, he is a lecturer in Public International Law and Energy Law in Azerbaijan. He is also a co-author of the book 'Oil Contracts: How to Read and Understand Them,' a guide for developing countries negotiating and structuring upstream contract terms with international oil companies. He is a graduate of Baku State University in Azerbaijan and holds an LLM in Natural Resources Law and Policy from Dundee University in the UK, as well as an MPA from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in the USA.
