Paul KEY

K.C.

Paul specialises in complex and heavyweight cross-border commercial cases. He has appeared as advocate in over 300 major international arbitrations worldwide (including ICSID, ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, HKIAC, SCC and SIAC), as well as appearing regularly before the English Courts (at all levels) and foreign courts.

A specialist focus in recent years has been the obtaining of injunctive relief from the English Courts and in arbitration – and providing multi-jurisdictional strategies for the enforcement of judgments and awards.

Recent cases include AIC v FAAN in the UK Supreme Court (successfully enforcement of a Nigerian arbitration award, 2022) and obtaining a well-publicised anti-suit injunction from the English Court of Appeal to stop litigation in Russia in favour of a Paris arbitration (Deutsche Bank v RusChemAlliance, August 2023).

He is Visiting Professor at King’s College, London. He has been a longstanding representative of the UK on the ILA International Commercial Arbitration Committee and is a delegate for the UNCITRAL Working Group on Arbitration.

He has been awarded the Legal 500 International Arbitration QC of the year award.
