Daniel RINCON
Mr. Daniel Rincón is the Senior Legal Counsel of the DEME Group for sustainability regulatory affairs, deep-sea mining, and marine infrastructure. Within this role, he provides strategic legal guidance to GSR, the deep-sea mining division of the DEME Group, covering a broad spectrum of legal matters. This includes shaping international and domestic regulations for the exploration and exploitation of polymetallic nodules, managing research and development funds, negotiating contracts for offshore and onshore technology development, overseeing corporate matters and financing, and navigating domestic mining regulations.
In addition to his role in GSR, Mr. Rincón also advises on sustainability regulatory matters, including emissions trading system and decarbonization in the maritime sector, corporate sustainability reporting, and ESG legal matters. He is actively involved in the drafting, review and negotiation of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts for marine and offshore energy infrastructure projects worldwide.
His expertise extends to academia, where he has served as a guest professor for the Masters of Laws in Energy, Environmental, and Climate Change Law at the University of Malta, visiting speaker on environmental liability at the Università degli Studi dell'Insubria, Italy, fellow at the Sustainability College of Bruges in Belgium and member of the Ibero-America Association of Energy Law. His scholarly contributions include authoring "Environmental Law in Colombia" in 2011 and co-authoring "Energy Law in Colombia" in 2014, both published by Wolters Kluwer.
