Presentation

This conference will examine the future of investor–State dispute settlement ("ISDS") in the context of Syria’s re-engagement with the international investment system following recent changes in international sanctions regimes, including the repeal of the Caesar Act and the easing of economic restrictions.

Bringing together leading experts in international arbitration, sanctions and public international law, investment policy, and foreign investment practice, the panel will explore how post-sanctions realities are reshaping investment protection, dispute prevention mechanisms, and arbitration risk. The discussion will address both legacy and prospective disputes, the interaction between sanctions compliance and ISDS, and the challenges of restoring legal certainty and investor confidence in post-conflict and transition contexts.

By combining legal, policy, and investor perspectives, the conference seeks to advance a substantive and pragmatic dialogue on the role of ISDS in supporting sustainable investment and economic reconstruction.
