Director – Maritime security

Cormac McGarry manages Control Risks’ maritime intelligence and security services, assisting clients with issues such as piracy, war, and terrorism at sea.

Cormac holds all four certifications under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code including Company Security Officer (CSO) and is an adjunct professor as SciencesPo Paris where he teaches on commercial maritime security.

His recent projects include:
- Expert Witness in multiple Constructive Total Loss claims and arbitrations between ship owners and charterers regarding refusals and diversions in the Black Sea following Russian invasion of Ukraine. Cormac has also served as expert witness in cases of salvage settlement, piracy and cocaine smuggling.
- Advising multiple owners, charterers, P&I clubs and Counsels on security risk related to Red Sea crisis.
- Deploying to Mexico’s Bay of Campeche on intelligence gathering trip to improve and inform maritime security services for clients operating off Mexico, ensuring that proportional security measure can be taken by clients operating there.
