Kim ROONEY


Arbitrator

Kim Rooney is an international arbitrator and Hong Kong barrister, sitting as arbitrator in arbitrations of aviation, commercial, construction and infrastructure, finance, high technology, energy and infrastructure disputes.

Kim is a member of the ICC’s International Court of Arbitration, eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre’s Board, the Hong Kong Bar Association’s Council (chairing its Arbitration Committee) and the Rules Committee of the Hague Court of Arbitration of Aviation. She is the editor of the IBA’s “Dispute Resolution International”.

Kim Rooney chaired the Sub-Committee on Third Party Funding for Arbitration of the Hong Kong Law Reform Commission (“HKLRC”). Part XA of the Arbitration Ordinance (Cap 609) (Hong Kong) permitting third party funding of arbitration is based on the draft legislation annexed to the HKLRC’s 2016 Third Party Funding for Arbitration Final Report.

From 2013-2016 she was a senior ADR expert in a EU-funded project in the Indonesian public sector. In 1998-1999 she led a World Bank-funded project advising the Ministry of Justice of the Lao PDR on international arbitration law reform.

Previously a partner of White & Case LLP, heading its Asian international dispute resolution practice, Kim is also admitted as an English solicitor and a Western Australian barrister and solicitor.
