Claudia Salgado Levy has extensive experience in international arbitration, particularly in investment disputes. Since 2004, she has been involved in the defense of Ecuador in complex investment arbitrations, contributing to the state’s legal strategy in high-stakes cases. Between 2018 and 2023, she served as the National Director of International Litigation and Arbitration at the Office of the Attorney General of Ecuador, where she was responsible for overseeing the defense of the state and its public entities in commercial and investment disputes. Her experience includes arbitration proceedings before ICSID, the PCA, and the ICC, as well as ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules.

She has represented Ecuador in international investment treaty negotiations (2005-2009) and served as delegate at the UNCITRAL Working Group III on Investor-State arbitration reform (2018 – 2023).

While in Switzerland, she worked as a Legal Expert at UNCTAD, conducting research on international investment treaties and investor-state arbitration. Her work included drafting reports and coordinating training programs on international investment law for government officials in countries such as Colombia, Ethiopia, and Ecuador.

She holds a Ph.D. in International Law from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and three master’s degrees: one from the University of Notre Dame in the United States, another from the Geneva Graduate Institute (MIDS) in Switzerland, and a third from Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar in Ecuador.
