Maximin DE FONTMICHEL


Professor of Law, Arbitrator, Legal Expert

Maximin teaches and conducts research in international arbitration, contract law and civil procedure. He leads the Master in Arbitration and Business Law of the University of Paris Saclay (MACI). In addition, Maximin is a Visiting Professor at the University of Monterrey (Mexico) and the University of Geneva (Switzerland).

Maximin serves as chairman, panel and sole arbitrator under the rules of the leading arbitral institutions and ad hoc arbitrations in a broad variety of domestic and commercial disputes. He is admitted to practice at the Paris and Madrid Bar. Having lived several years in Spain, Scotland and North America, Maximin masters three languages: he is fluent in English, Spanish and French.

He graduated from University Panthéon-Sorbonne and Complutense de Madrid as well as McGill University (LL.M 2008). During the year 2011 he was Visiting Scholar at Columbia Law School in New York.

He is the author of a monograph entitled « Weak parties and arbitration » (2013) and co-author of the “Code de l’arbitrage commenté” (2nd edition 2021). He is also the author of various contributions in books and articles in law journals, mainly focused on arbitration and contract law.

Maximin is an active member of the Société de Legislation Comparé (SLC), the Comité Français de l’Arbitrage and the French Branch of the International Law Association.
